I am not sure on the size of marquee I need, can you help?

Yes of course. We have been in our business now for 150 years and are very experienced. We can determine the size of your marquee depending on:

  • The number of guests you are expecting
  • Whether you will have seating and tables, or seating only
  • If you choose to add stage areas or dance floors
  • Whether there will be large catering facilities and other things inside

Each and every event is unique so we always talk closely with our clients so that we can determine your personal requirements. We will wholly recommend to you the size of marquee to choose.

How many guests can I have in a marquee?

We will talk to you about the type of event that you will be holding and determine whether they will be expected to stand, or will be seated. Our team will also need details such as whether you are planning a staged area, reception area or dance floor, and if you are expecting to house catering carts and other similar things. In general we would recommend around 7-8 square metres for each person if you are not including seating, and if they are to be seated we would work out the size required based on around 14-15 square metres per person.

Do you have to visit the site or venue at which we want to erect a marquee?

We always recommend that we carry out a site visit. You are not obliged to take up our services but surveying the location will allow to find solutions when it comes to size and the landscape on which the marquee will be sited.

When we do a site visit, we measure the area and will talk to you about exactly what you are looking for. We do this at the early stages to ensure that we get it right from the start.

Is a marquee safe?

Absolutely. All of our marquees are staked according to strict regulations and are fully fire resistant. They are also weatherproof.

What if it is windy, will the marquee still be standing?

A marquee has a very sturdy structure and it will be fine during windy periods. That said, if there are gusts of around 60mph, which is exceptional, you will be fine to use the marquee.

What are the fees for a site visit?

We carry out a no obligation site visit which means that you do not pay us upfront fees. There are no hidden costs when you are using Marquees and Events.

How much does it cost to hire a marquee and what does that include?

Our standard marquee prices include standard ivory lining and walls with Victorian style windows. You can add to the starting price by adding on other things that we can rent out so you can be as basic or as lavish as you want to be.

What will you include when you send me a quotation?

Your quote will be fully itemised and based on all of the things we discuss when we meet with you. This allows us to be sure we have interpreted your ideas and requirements correctly, and will allow you to make sure you are hiring everything that you need.

We’ll add all of the essential items and will recommend other options that you may be interested in. Quotations can, of course, be changed before confirming your order and we will outline the deposit required to secure your rental. Basically you can choose what you want, and what you don’t want.

Is it easy to decorate the marquee to suit my proposed theme?

Yes. Our events team can help you with this. We can offer coloured linings for the interior of the marquee so that it matches with your chosen styles. We have a number of furniture options such as covered chairs and chair sashes, carpets and flooring and can even style the lighting to match the romantic or lively mood you wish to create.

Can you help with the layout of the marquee?

Our team will help with this. We use computer aided design (CAD) to help plan the interior layout, this helps you to visualise the inside and ensures that there is enough space for your guests to move around in. The software we use will create a drawing that is designed to scale so that we can view the layout and make sure we have included everything.

When do you come to erect the marque, will it be the same day that the function is planned?

No. We need to ensure that the marquee is erected correctly and that it is done so in advance of your function. This makes sure that everything is in place in good time and that you can be sure that your marquee venue is ready to use.

How long is it until you remove the marquee?

The first working day following your function, our team will arrive to dismantle the marquee, check for damage, and return it to our storage depot in Essex.

Will you attend on the day of my function?

We won’t be present on the day, after all this is your celebration and we don’t want to interfere with your celebrations. That said, if you do prefer for somebody from Marquees and Events to be present, it can be arranged.

There will always be a member of our staff on call who can attend in the rare event that you need us on the day.

We want to celebrate in winter, can we still hire a marquee?

All of our marquees are useable all year round. We can’t predict the weather, but we can help you to plan things like the flooring so that your guests aren’t splodging around in a muddy pit! There are many other options so that, on a cold winters day or evening, you can heat the marquee using thermostat controls. Another thing to think about is that we can create separate areas in the layout of the interior if you prefer our luxury toilet units are indoors rather than outside.

Is the marquee going to be insured?

We are insured as a company and the insurance cost to cover the marquee will be provided on our quotation. The insurance that you pay for will cover you for all eventualities and are subject to our terms and conditions.

What flooring can I use as I don’t want my guests to be trudging through grass?

Flooring is an optional extra. Our standard flooring gives you a wooden surface on which to walk. We recommend that it’s covered up with carpeting, alternatively you can opt for heel-friendly weaved matting.

How can I light the inside of the marquee?

Lighting is an optional extra. We can use standard uplighters or, for a little more elegance, we can add chandeliers for that romantic feel. We also can supply rope lighting to add a more intimate effect, and can add outdoor lighting should you require it.

What about a power supply?

If you are providing catering or will have a band play in the marquee, then you may need an extra power supply but if you are not then you will not need any extra power. Our cables can usually be laid 50 metres away from the nearest power supply so the marquee would need to be situated close to a supply if there is one. Alternatively we are able to provide you with a generator that can do the same job, this is an ideal choice if you are a little more remote.
